00:00:14
News. Senator Elizabeth Warren
00:00:18
a longtime ally of Sanders
says she would be more of be
00:00:22
a more effective president
than him Bertie and I agree on
00:00:25
a lot of things but I think I would make
00:00:27
a better president than Bernie and
the reason for that is that getting
00:00:31
a progressive agenda and acted is going
to be really hard and it's going to take
00:00:36
someone who digs into the details to make
it happen former Vice President Joe Biden
00:00:41
is narrowly ahead of Sanders in recent
polling in South Carolina we've created jobs
00:00:46
for people the people know me my entire
career has been wrapped up in dealing with
00:00:51
civil rights and civil liberties I don't
expect and I plan to earn the vote I hear
00:00:56
I'm here to ask. The folks I
intend to win South Carolina
00:01:03
and I will win the African-American vote
here in South Korea this was the final
00:01:07
debate before Saturday's South Carolina
primary former candidate Hillary Clinton
00:01:12
has voiced her support for whomever the
Democratic candidate turns out to be a.p.
00:01:17
Shelley Adler has more shortly before
Election Day 2016 Senator Bernie Sanders who
00:01:23
lost the Democratic nomination to Hillary
Clinton said this of his former rival on
00:01:29
every major issue Hillary Clinton is far
and away the superior candidate and now
00:01:36
Clinton is returning the favor the former
secretary of state who has expressed your
00:01:40
skepticism about Sanders
saying nobody likes him and
00:01:44
a documentary now says she will support the
Democratic nominee regardless of who it
00:01:49
is adding her top priority was unseating

Government response to the deepening
coronavirus crisis is splitting lawmakers as
00:02:07
congressional Democrats disagreed with
President Donald Trump's assertion the virus

respond quickly when the virus arrives

Christian Lim Myatt drew
00:02:35
a comparison to an outbreak the biggest
in Europe where he says the response was
00:02:40
pretty strong Iran meanwhile has the highest
number of coronavirus deaths outside
00:02:46
China where the virus emerged to
December and more than 2600 have died.
00:02:53
That country's deputy health minister and
00:02:56
a member of parliament have tested positive
for the corona virus as the death toll
00:03:00
there rose to 60 it is waiters Adam Reid
reporting global markets are taking
00:03:06
a pounding over fears about the affects of
the coronavirus on the world trading and
00:03:10
manufacturing the Dow Jones has dropped
nearly 2000 points in the past 2 days. Set

further rattled by the Centers for Disease
00:03:21
Control and Prevention warning Americans
to prepare for an outbreak of the virus
00:03:26
market was also focused
I would say perhaps
00:03:28
a bit more closely on
statements from the c.d.c.
00:03:31
Which came out today saying Americans really
need to be prepared for cases to show
00:03:36
up here it's
00:03:37
a matter of time and they've said that
before but it was those comments were not as
00:03:42
widely circulated as they were today and
so that really got the markets attention

there are nearly 80000 confirmed cases
worldwide and more than 2600 deaths

00:16:48
In Nigeria they've recovered time is coming
up at 70 minutes past the hour he gave
00:16:54
me the National Front for the
defense of the Constitution f d c
00:16:58
a coalition of opposition political parties
and. Civil society groups says it will
00:17:03
no longer recognize President Condi as
leader of the country this as the condé
00:17:08
government is set to hold
00:17:10
a controversial constitutional referendum
and parliamentary elections on Sunday
00:17:14
March 1st the opposition says the 81 year
old condé whose current 2nd and final
00:17:20
term and December this year wants to
use the referendum to stay in power an
00:17:25
allegation the government has the
95000000 mono a member of the f. And d.c.
00:17:30
Said the referendum is
00:17:32
a constitutional cool and President Condi
is not above the law yet offend the seas
00:17:39
because of failure of.
To get everybody to talk
00:17:46
about what is going on in our country and
the person who is responsible of that the
00:17:52
president. Have to no longer cook.
00:18:00
And we're going to. He is the president
of the country and what do you mean when
00:18:05
you say you are going to act accordingly
he is the president of the country but no
00:18:11
money. At. The law even in the United.
00:18:19
Been elected something really in
the nazis on and off is something
00:18:27
you can be impeached if you don't like
the law it is exactly what is going on
00:18:33
country today and he put in place
the judiciary but that it did
00:18:40
seem. That he even
responsible. People of Guinea
00:18:47
right to take responsibility.
Does this mean that members of
00:18:54
the opposition will not take part in the
referendum not only we don't think because
00:19:00
it is. In
00:19:01
a constitutional could it are doing and
today one will recognize that all the
00:19:08
international community is getting away
from that process the last decision after
00:19:15
the statement made by the United States
through the State Department after the
00:19:21
statement made by European Union and the
National Organization of Francophonie that
00:19:28
was I think Tim let me tell it to
00:19:31
a body had to sad it to withdraw from
the process because there are 3 that is
00:19:37
completely corrupted and because of what
has been known in terms of the violation
00:19:43
of the law so today I want be no
international observers of that process and
00:19:50
remember there are 2 leisure decisions
to be made 1st the referendum and sit
00:19:57
on the parliamentary elections the major
what it took up in the opposition and
00:20:03
created my own political but we are not
out of it so and on they cannot be fair
00:20:10
like 28 if person a property we are
00:20:14
a republic and we have to it by the
Constitution I do law and listen to you talk
00:20:21
about the international organizations I
don't think I heard you mention the African
00:20:25
Union what do you think the Africa you know
can do African Union can do many things
00:20:31
a good one can do many things but heaved
00:20:34
a problem in Rafik some African
leaders seem to stop each other
00:20:41
even when they ask behave in such
00:20:45
a way that to create problems in their
own country everybody knows that one
00:20:52
day Eve didn't Valerie and all the international
laws that Guinea has signed off in
00:20:59
Kabul and at the. Because you know on
live out for now we have it we are going
00:21:06
to. Have it and we're going to do that
because it is about giving it up out.
00:21:15
Loud to the fire I mean the mono is
00:21:17
a member of the National Front for the
defense of the Constitution the Guinea he
00:21:22
was speaking with us from the capital
Conakry the Gambian government on Tuesday
00:21:26
ordered the reopening of
2 privately owned f.m.
00:21:30
Radio stations that was shut
down last month following
00:21:33
a public demonstration in which the
protesters called for the resignation of
00:21:38
President adamant borrow as pundit written
by reports from Raleigh North Carolina
00:21:44
the government has also dropped criminal
charges against the accused journalists I
00:21:49
want our time to do is gonna be as justice
minister can be to address the press on
00:21:53
Tuesday on the start of the 2 groups radio
stations we have had discussions with
00:21:59
the Gandhi of course Union of course the
political officials of the National Human
00:22:04
Rights Commission and the gunmen hostage
in Division 2 we opened the reduced
00:22:09
Titian's that we had close on 26th of
January and to drop all charges against the
00:22:16
journalists who where I was as
00:22:18
a consequence different and meeting time
who had the shares of Gambians Human
00:22:23
Rights Commission also in attendance at the
meeting what they gon be oppressed and
00:22:29
officials from diminished information
may become the home to get an f.m.
00:22:34
And taking action radio we are shut down
it really could be you know what it
00:22:38
protests mind these days and we
accuse a piece acted violence
00:22:42
a charge is only deny we have all learned
lessons from this episode we hope we can
00:22:47
avoid in future but on the part of the
government and of course media practitioners
00:22:52
in the country we can avoid the kind
of situation that has led to this
00:22:56
a lack of will ending for put the
government under need to reduce tension. I
00:23:02
believe that what has happened today if
anything else has family way to it at the
00:23:08
position of the government
to promote exercise or do x.
00:23:12
If one of expression turned into her 300
government's commitment to media freedom
00:23:17
he signed the reopening of the 2 radio
stations that justify his claims Emanuel
00:23:22
you'll be the chairperson of Ghandi as Human
Rights Commission we have been visited
00:23:27
by the minister of justice minister of
information and the governor president and
00:23:32
the visit is to talk about but in an issue
surrounding the growth of the radio
00:23:37
station that took place among other things
that we spoke about very freely and
00:23:42
frankly but mainly it was to look at issues
that have transpired in the last month
00:23:47
in General Walker's at the close radio
stations from one cause or loss of earnings
00:23:54
this is already government moved to attend

Democrats running for president make their
00:30:17
case in a c.b.s.
00:30:18
Debate ahead of
00:30:19
a crucial weekend election one of the
things that kept me safe just as sure as my
00:30:24
body armor was the fact that the
flat on my shoulder represented
00:30:28
a country that was known to keep its word
our allies and our adversaries knew it
00:30:34
the president has torn that to shreds.
Health officials warn it's not
00:30:38
a matter of if but when the car on
a virus will spread in the u.s.
00:30:42
Also ahead a former Egyptian
president who out was ousted in
00:30:45
a popular uprising has died it's all
on today's international edition.
00:30:54
7 remaining Democrats who
hope to deny President Trump
00:30:57
a 2nd term held their final debate between
the remaining 7 Democratic presidential
00:31:04
cant contenders ahead of contests on
Saturday in South Carolina and then Tuesday
00:31:10
when there will be more than
00:31:12
a 3rd of delegates needed to secure
the nomination the debate on c.b.s.
00:31:16
Was filled with attacks aimed at the new
front runner Bernie Sanders particularly
00:31:20
when it comes to his plans on health care
what every study out there surveyed of
00:31:26
all progress that says Medicare for all
will save money the Associated Press
00:31:34
says Sanders claim is not quite correct
Meanwhile he was also attacked by Senate
00:31:38
votes by his Senate votes on gun control
like the Brady bill there's former Vice
00:31:43
President Joe Biden on the c.b.s.
00:31:45
Debate ahead of the next contest where
African-American support will be crucial you
00:31:50
know we talk about progressive West talk
about being progressive walking to his
00:31:55
mother Emanuel Church 9 people shot dead
by white supremacist Bernie voted 5
00:32:02
times against the Brady Bill. Joining us
for further analysis on the debate the
00:32:08
l.a. Correspondent Jim alone Jim it was
00:32:11
a lot of attacking again mostly aimed at
one person what you think I think that the
00:32:17
bigger target on Tuesday night was actually
Bernie Sanders the front runner the
00:32:23
senator from Vermont various of the other
contenders on stage took their shots at
00:32:29
him based on the policies he advocates
whether it be on health care or some of the
00:32:34
other costly approaches to dealing with
the issues in the United States but also
00:32:39
his past statements that he's been
been challenged about favorable
00:32:45
statements about Cuba in the past in the
past the Soviet Union various other
00:32:52
countries with sort of controversial
leaders so there was some of trying to put
00:32:58
Bernie Sanders on the spot. And I think
that's what happens when you're leading in
00:33:05
the polls and you're about to head into
some critical primaries the next several
00:33:09
days that really could determine the outcome
of the nomination race do you think
00:33:15
that they did
00:33:16
a good job at sort of getting people to
potentially question voting for Bernie
00:33:21
Sanders I think they had more success in
this debate than anything we've seen today
00:33:26
it wasn't
00:33:26
a surprise to Senator Sanders he knew
it was going to get scrutiny and to be
00:33:30
challenged but I do think it came from all
sides even Senator Elizabeth Warren who
00:33:36
is
00:33:36
a fellow progressive. Tried to make the
case that she would be better positioned to
00:33:42
be the nominee than Senator Sanders and
he certainly got challenged by the
00:33:48
moderates on stage questioning his health
care plans his foreign policy ideas and
00:33:55
just raising the concern that
00:33:58
a lot of Democrats do have that if he's
the nominee it could be insuring 4 more
00:34:03
years of President. On the White House
seems to be their number one concern going
00:34:08
into this election cycle the crowds have
consistently said that that's the most
00:34:13
important thing to them as well as these
other issues right and I think what you're
00:34:17
what you've gotten so far in the early
primaries the centers has been very well
00:34:21
he's building momentum is latest performance
and of that it was his best so far but
00:34:26
that's because also there are several
moderates who are giving up that moderate
00:34:31
vote and trying to vying for the role of
being the challenger to Senator Sanders I
00:34:36
thought for example in this latest debate
that Joe Biden had one of his stronger
00:34:40
debates he's counting on
00:34:41
a good performance Saturday in South Carolina
he actually probably has to win that
00:34:46
to remain viable I also think that the
former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg
00:34:52
was
00:34:52
a little more alive in this latest debate
that he was in the 1st debate last week
00:34:57
in which he got a very bad reviews from
00:35:00
a lot of critics Bloomberg tried to be more
forceful it tried to challenge Sanders
00:35:05
more so Bernie Sanders definitely was getting
criticized from all comers there and
00:35:11
what I think we want to see is this going
to have any effect on the Super Tuesday
00:35:16
voting next Tuesday or even in
South Carolina coming up in
00:35:19
a few days or has he built such
00:35:22
a theme of momentum that at this point
it's going to be hard for any of them to
00:35:26
slow him down all right that is the way
correspondent Jim alone mean well u.s.
00:35:31
National security adviser Robert O'Brien
said last week that he has not seen any
00:35:36
evidence that Russia is doing anything to
help President Trump get reelected but he
00:35:41
acknowledged he has sought out and not
sought out intelligence reports alleging
00:35:45
Moscow's interfering in the 2020 Alexion
also during Tuesday night's Democratic
00:35:51
debate the issue of Russian meddling came
up to prop attention to help President
00:35:56
Trump and also Bernie Sanders
00:35:58
a Democrat to take Trump on here's former
Mayor Pete the judge at the debate
00:36:03
courtesy of c.b.s.
00:36:04
. Why would the Russians want to be working
on behalf of Bernie Sanders I'll tell
00:36:09
you what the Russians want they don't have
00:36:11
a political party they want chaos and chaos
is what is coming our way I mean look
00:36:17
if you think the last 4 years has
been chaotic. Divisive toxic
00:36:24
exhausting imagine spending the better
part of 2020 with Bernie Sanders versus
00:36:29
Donald Trump Think about what that
will be like for this country about
00:36:34
a kid again from the Democratic
debate courtesy of c.b.s.
00:36:38
Americans are getting confused about
what to believe when it comes to Russian
00:36:42
interference Joining us now to sort it
all out is Camille Jaffer founder and
00:36:47
executive director of the National Security
instituted George Mason University of
00:36:51
Antonin Scalia law school what's going on
here well really what's clear is that the
00:36:57
Russians are interfering in the American
electoral process just like they did in 26
00:37:01
and this is no surprise we expected this
to happen and that process has begun and
00:37:06
what we see them doing it appears as
though they're interfering the Dischord at
00:37:11
a minimum we see them apparently Bernie
Sanders campaign was briefed that they were
00:37:16
interfering on his behalf and that's
interesting because if it is the case that
00:37:20
they that they favor the president which
again there's been some debate about
00:37:24
whether they favor the president or they're
simply interfering in the election and
00:37:28
they think he's a more pliable or
00:37:30
a more beneficial then candidate in either
event supporting Bernie is another way
00:37:36
of just creating more chaos and look suppose
we had Sorry we're understanding he
00:37:40
was elected right but what happened
then is his ability to function will be
00:37:44
undermined by the fact that it appears the
Russians and supported him too and so
00:37:48
what they've done very cleverly as they
had in the prior election was be very
00:37:53
effective that undermining the ability of
either person gets elected to be to be
00:38:00
successful but also to create
00:38:03
a lack of confidence in our public in our
system and our rule blog confusion that's
00:38:07
the real problem what specifically are
they doing to sow this discord though well
00:38:13
we know what they did back in 2016 right
in place 16 we saw them take both sides of
00:38:18
the debate we saw them support the black
live matter movement we saw them. Support
00:38:22
the rise of the foul right we saw them say
that Donald Trump is not my president
00:38:26
after was elected and we saw them have
these ads that had the devil of Jesus
00:38:30
wrestling and saying that Jesus wins if
Hillary loses you know and as we saw the
00:38:34
Russians taking both sides of debate and
as we understand it they're putting out
00:38:38
the same kind of messaging today on Twitter
and the like now we don't have details
00:38:43
we haven't seen reporting from the
intelligence community about what specifically
00:38:47
they're doing but it's fair to assume
that what they did back in 2060 in the
00:38:51
present more sophisticated version of that
may be what's going on here in the 2020
00:38:55
a lot so if the president does not want
to acknowledge this or he says he hasn't
00:38:59
been briefed on any of this is it safe to
assume that we are doing nothing to put
00:39:03
a stop to this potential interference
Well look the fact that the president you
00:39:06
know has one about been briefed on I think
is less relevant I think we do know that
00:39:11
the u.s.
00:39:11
Intelligence community is aware because we're
hearing these reports of the briefings
00:39:15
that they at least gave to members of
Congress and they gave the center standers
00:39:17
campaign so they're aware of the
We also know that various u.s.
00:39:21
Government agencies including
Ashford agency have taken
00:39:23
a new posture when it comes to both the
lecture experience and Sarek to these more
00:39:27
generally taken the view that they need
to engage in what they call persistent
00:39:30
engagement or defend forward which means
operating in foreign space against these
00:39:34
adversaries of to counter them
before they get to us u.s.
00:39:37
Shores we also know that about
a year and a half ago Congress
00:39:40
a gave them authorities to take action in
cyberspace against people who threaten
00:39:45
the u.s. Elections and they named
00:39:46
a Russia in North Korea China and Iran is
potentially being involved in activities
00:39:50
so we know there's authority we know there's
potential action being taken but the
00:39:54
real question is what should be done on
the defensive side because it's one thing
00:39:58
for us to go pushing push back against
it out there on the off and one on the
00:40:01
defense side here at home and that's an
important part of the debate how do you
00:40:04
change to work together with one another
and work with the federal government in
00:40:07
a collective security arrangement
to the found themselves against
00:40:10
a nation state threat and is an effort to
the to do that well and you know we know
00:40:14
that Chris present d.h.
00:40:15
Who runs the cyber infrastructure
security agency a d
00:40:18
h s has been out there working with the
states actively We know that. Congress
00:40:22
recently passed some funding to help with
those efforts but more needs to be done
00:40:25
right we know that for example the
federal government collects all sorts of
00:40:28
intelligence information about the threat
if we could pass that information on one
00:40:32
the private sector companies that are
doing defense on behalf of private or
00:40:36
otherwise the companies or the states that
would be important and 2nd if they could
00:40:39
pass an intelligence directly to the states
themselves that would be good beyond
00:40:43
that but we have to think about how
states can help each other get better and
00:40:47
activate against this threat because with
one state standing alone it's like one
00:40:51
company standing alone can't rationally
expect them to stand up and defend
00:40:55
themselves against
00:40:55
a nation state attack or that is virtually
unlimited resources and virtually both
00:40:59
human and capital and these have to come
together work with one another with the
00:41:03
federal government work with the with private
industry to really closely defend one
00:41:08
another against this this this foreign
threat Morrissey's last question then she
00:41:12
didn't but I think in some ways they've
already achieved their mission because now
00:41:16
the American public may be wondering if
the elections are fair well that and that
00:41:20
is the ultimate goal you're exactly right
Laura which is that the the Russians have
00:41:24
already successfully undermined some level
of confidence the election but they're
00:41:29
going to keep going they're going to try
and do more and we've got to push back on
00:41:32
it against a nation you know we've got
00:41:34
a lot of partisan carping against one
another for the last 4 years that's still
00:41:38
going to continue because look there
is an open debate over how to run our
00:41:41
government and that's Ok today to have
what's not Ok is the question whether we're
00:41:46
under attack from foreign nations there
because we are and we've got to band
00:41:49
together as something public committee has
between Senators Berger and Warner come
00:41:54
together call for one of their take
collective action against the threats aren't
00:41:57
you now Jaffer founder and executive director

00:43:11
not she could not predict how severe the
spread of the virus will be in the u.s.
00:43:16
It's not so much a question of if this
will happen anymore but rather more
00:43:21
a question of exactly when this will
happen and how many people in this country
00:43:26
will have to fear parts of northern Italy

00:43:31

00:45:37
a window of opportunity for stopping
this they say from becoming
00:45:41
a pandemic it's narrowing very fast.
When the entire community at the moment.
00:45:49
Will eventually develop into
00:45:50
a pandemic However I have to point out
that in the past we've had similar fears
00:45:56
what has happened is that
viruses just died down
00:45:59
a way the global economic cost could
hit 360 $1000000000.00 according to
00:46:06
a report. From the Overseas
Development Institute or o.d.i.
00:46:10
Which warns sub-Saharan Africa stands to
lose full $1000000000.00 in export revenue
00:46:17
South Africa's state industry isn't off
the china hole to imports of seafood.
00:46:24
A pick they did not want to take out if
not walk at. All and copper prices are
00:46:30
sharply down and big exporters to China
such as I go are all suffering the o.d.i.
00:46:36
Says Sure Lanka Vietnam and the Philippines
will be worst it's everybody's looking
00:46:42
back at the stars and about in 2003 but
of course if we look back China is now 4
00:46:47
times bigger than joining the time of the
SARS outbreak and it's more connected to
00:46:53
the world now through value chains and
manufacturing sector scientists are racing
00:46:58
to produce
00:46:59
a vaccine for the virus with the 1st human
trial scheduled for April by then the
00:47:05
19 outbreak could be
00:47:07
a pandemic with serious consequences for
national health systems and the global
00:47:13
economy and the ritual of u.n.

00:47:35
a modern pariah Hosni Mubarak held power
for nearly 30 years and like many Arab
00:47:42
leaders of his time made his country
00:47:44
a personal fiefdom he placed friends and
family in positions of power and appeared
00:47:49
to be grooming his son to succeed
him. Until 18 stunning days in early
00:47:56
20 Levon when it all came to an end his
vice president announced the news in these
00:48:01
difficult circumstances of his going through
because in Mubarak decides. When he
00:48:08
supposedly as president and he requested
the Supreme Council of the out of the
00:48:12
forces to run the affairs of the
country and. Within months he was in
00:48:19
a courtroom cage on trial for the killing
of protesters he was sentenced to life in
00:48:24
prison. It was an almost unthinkable
political and to the man who was the only
00:48:31
president most Egyptians knew yet the
presidency was not something he had sought.
00:48:40
In 1901 Islam has killed President Anwar
Sadat in part for making peace with Israel
00:48:46
Vice President Mubarak was by his side
the assassins propelled him to the
00:48:51
leadership of the country.
During the 1973 Arab Israeli war
00:48:58
Mubarak had risen to fame as head of Egypt's
air force that made him unlikely to
00:49:02
carry forward the peace deal with Israel
but with huge financial incentives from
00:49:06
the United States he remained committed
to the treaty. At the same time he mended
00:49:11
relations with Arab nations that had
shunned Egypt for its overture to keep the
00:49:16
peace at home he instituted emergency
laws an emergency that lasted for decades
00:49:21
Hussein Abdul Razak is the former head of
the left wing to Gama party and I have
00:49:27
the most important objective he sought is
to achieve stability and security. That
00:49:33
security came at
00:49:34
a price with rights groups and opponents
claiming widespread torture on the
00:49:39
economic front Mubarak promised reforms
but poverty and unemployment grew when
00:49:44
Islamic extremists killed Egyptians and
foreign tourists Mubarak crackdown but in
00:49:49
doing so he also marginalized moderate
Islamists only increasing their grassroots
00:49:54
support according to political analyst
Hisham Kassem Mubarak more than anything
00:49:59
lacked
00:49:59
a vision we're not talking only about
somebody who was very well shot Israel
00:50:04
a friend of our country for 30 years and
practically. He did nothing Ok he was like
00:50:08
. Mr nightshift. Out
there to hand over the
00:50:15
place to the morning shift this is his
legacy but he was ultra corrupt ultra
00:50:21
corrupt. Some say was the grooming of his
son Gamal that proved the final straw
00:50:27
Saeed Sadek of the American University in
Cairo if you look at the Special saying
00:50:32
this is
00:50:32
a poser. To his song with the
letter to you all for this song the
00:50:39
climb to win the street. Sadek says the
middle class heard by Mr Berndt policies
00:50:46
led to revolt against him but even during
his trial he had his supporters get me
00:50:52
into colonies surely. Mr
Mubarak song itself as
00:50:56
a paternal figure it's an image he
played upon in his final days in office.
00:51:06
But his defiance only reminded the
protesters of his refusal to do more than he
00:51:11
will power and there's been that

trapped in an abusive relationship with
00:53:12

actor Oliver Jackson Cohen Adrian lives
00:53:18
in
00:53:19
a technology packed mansion which becomes
Cecilia's prison when he threatens to kill
00:53:24
her if she leaves when Cecilia drugs Adrian
and escapes and he apparently committed
00:53:30
suicide she stands to inherit $5000000.00
But Cecilia suspects the death was
00:53:36
a hoax we learn that Adrian has developed
a way to make himself invisible
00:53:42
a strange series of eerie coincidences turns
lethal and Cecilia's sanity begins to
00:53:48
unravel as she tries to prove
that she's being hunted by
00:53:51
a tormentor no one can see the now
invisible Adrian at the film's Los Angeles
00:53:58
premiere Elisabeth Moss said the Terror
of the Invisible Man comes from both the
00:54:03
invisible tormentor and from not being
believed something that you can't see
00:54:08
something that you can't fight something
that you have no power over is really
00:54:11
scary and you don't know where it's coming
from you don't know when it's kind of
00:54:15
homicide think that's
00:54:16
a concept that's actually really quite
frightening Oliver Jackson Cohen says

Invisible Man was written by h.g.
00:54:27
Wells and published in 897 and made it
terrifyingly relevant and you know him to
00:54:33
take this property that we've known about
for so long and actually make the monster
00:54:38
real and make it something that we
encounter and stories that that is still
00:54:43
happening today you know to to kind of
update it said this is the. If you're going
00:54:49
to kind of take the invisible man every
directly we're now known for his work on
00:54:53
the Saw franchise insidious and upgrade
directed the film and wrote the story and
00:54:59
screenplay he teamed with producer and
modern horror master Jason Blom known for
00:55:04
the Paranormal Activity and insidious
franchises as well as the Oscar winning get
00:55:10
out when else says that he didn't start
out thinking about modern implications of
00:55:15
the film like the Harvey Weinstein case
but those themes found their way into the
00:55:21
final product the themes of the the
allegories of the movie come through at
00:55:27
a subconscious level sometimes and sometimes
and that's how it was for me when
00:55:32
writing this film I started to see things
pop up out of it that felt relevant and
00:55:36
current and I just you just sort of let it
happen you know any Elisabeth Moss says
00:55:40
she hopes the film motivates people to
take the problem of abuse and those trying
00:55:45
to escape it seriously you know and that's
one of the things that we talk about in
00:55:49
this film through the film is you know
she's just she is scared and she feels
00:55:55
something and she believes something's
happening and no one will listen to are the

00:17:08
government is set to hold
00:17:10
a controversial constitutional referendum
and parliamentary elections on Sunday
00:17:14
March 1st the opposition says the 81 year
old condé whose current 2nd and final

use the referendum to stay in power an

To get everybody to talk

the person who is responsible of that the

00:18:00
And we're going to. He is the president
of the country and what do you mean when
00:18:05
you say you are going to act accordingly
he is the president of the country but no
00:18:11

00:18:19
Been elected something really in

00:18:27
you can be impeached if you don't like
the law it is exactly what is going on

country today and he put in place
the judiciary but that it did
00:18:40
seem. That he even
responsible. People of Guinea
00:18:47
right to take responsibility.
Does this mean that members of
00:18:54
the opposition will not take part in the
referendum not only we don't think because
00:19:00
it is. In
00:19:01
a constitutional could it are doing and
today one will recognize that all the
00:19:08
international community is getting away
from that process the last decision after
00:19:15
the statement made by the United States
through the State Department after the
00:19:21
statement made by European Union and the
National Organization of Francophonie that
00:19:28
was I think Tim let me tell it to
00:19:31
a body had to sad it to withdraw from
the process because there are 3 that is
00:19:37
completely corrupted and because of what
has been known in terms of the violation
00:19:43
of the law so today I want be no
international observers of that process and
00:19:50
remember there are 2 leisure decisions
to be made 1st the referendum and sit
00:19:57
on the parliamentary elections the major
what it took up in the opposition and
00:20:03
created my own political but we are not
out of it so and on they cannot be fair

lessons from this episode we hope we can

government and of course media practitioners
00:22:52
in the country we can avoid the kind
of situation that has led to this
00:22:56
a lack of will ending for put the
government under need to reduce tension. I

believe that what has happened today if
anything else has family way to it at the

00:23:32
the visit is to talk about but in an issue
surrounding the growth of the radio
00:23:37
station that took place among other things
that we spoke about very freely and
00:23:42
frankly but mainly it was to look at issues
that have transpired in the last month
00:23:47
in General Walker's at the close radio
stations from one cause or loss of earnings
00:23:54
this is already government moved to attend
them and they were not only detained
00:23:59
what had their stations shut down seaboard
young you know if the president of the
00:24:03
gun be president Boyden argues that it was
illegal for the government shut down due
00:24:09
to radio stations we felt the government
in this case exercise power was it never
00:24:14
had that has to be clear and this
is all point of view he got to be
00:24:17
a press Union and distort a lot of
Esau's out there the roof of insecurity
00:24:24
a roof of paranoia if the police id or
whoever can order his mental go and close
00:24:30
radio stations without due process because
due process was not followed by Young
00:24:34

00:30:17
case in a c.b.s.
00:30:18
Debate ahead of
00:30:19
a crucial weekend election one of the
things that kept me safe just as sure as my
00:30:24
body armor was the fact that the
flat on my shoulder represented
00:30:28
a country that was known to keep its word
our allies and our adversaries knew it
00:30:34
the president has torn that to shreds.
Health officials warn it's not
00:30:38
a matter of if but when the car on
a virus will spread in the u.s.
00:30:42
Also ahead a former Egyptian
president who out was ousted in
00:30:45
a popular uprising has died it's all
on today's international edition.
00:30:54
7 remaining Democrats who
hope to deny President Trump
00:30:57
a 2nd term held their final debate between
the remaining 7 Democratic presidential
00:31:04
cant contenders ahead of contests on
Saturday in South Carolina and then Tuesday
00:31:10
when there will be more than
00:31:12
a 3rd of delegates needed to secure
the nomination the debate on c.b.s.
00:31:16
Was filled with attacks aimed at the new
front runner Bernie Sanders particularly
00:31:20
when it comes to his plans on health care
what every study out there surveyed of
00:31:26
all progress that says Medicare for all
will save money the Associated Press
00:31:34
says Sanders claim is not quite correct
Meanwhile he was also attacked by Senate
00:31:38
votes by his Senate votes on gun control
like the Brady bill there's former Vice
00:31:43
President Joe Biden on the c.b.s.
00:31:45
Debate ahead of the next contest where
African-American support will be crucial you
00:31:50
know we talk about progressive West talk
about being progressive walking to his
00:31:55
mother Emanuel Church 9 people shot dead
by white supremacist Bernie voted 5
00:32:02
times against the Brady Bill. Joining us
for further analysis on the debate the
00:32:08
l.a. Correspondent Jim alone Jim it was
00:32:11
a lot of attacking again mostly aimed at
one person what you think I think that the
00:32:17
bigger target on Tuesday night was actually
Bernie Sanders the front runner the
00:32:23
senator from Vermont various of the other
contenders on stage took their shots at
00:32:29
him based on the policies he advocates
whether it be on health care or some of the
00:32:34
other costly approaches to dealing with
the issues in the United States but also
00:32:39
his past statements that he's been
been challenged about favorable
00:32:45
statements about Cuba in the past in the
past the Soviet Union various other
00:32:52
countries with sort of controversial
leaders so there was some of trying to put
00:32:58
Bernie Sanders on the spot. And I think
that's what happens when you're leading in
00:33:05
the polls and you're about to head into
some critical primaries the next several
00:33:09
days that really could determine the outcome
of the nomination race do you think
00:33:15
that they did
00:33:16
a good job at sort of getting people to
potentially question voting for Bernie
00:33:21
Sanders I think they had more success in
this debate than anything we've seen today
00:33:26
it wasn't
00:33:26
a surprise to Senator Sanders he knew
it was going to get scrutiny and to be
00:33:30
challenged but I do think it came from all
sides even Senator Elizabeth Warren who
00:33:36
is
00:33:36
a fellow progressive. Tried to make the
case that she would be better positioned to
00:33:42
be the nominee than Senator Sanders and
he certainly got challenged by the
00:33:48
moderates on stage questioning his health
care plans his foreign policy ideas and
00:33:55
just raising the concern that
00:33:58
a lot of Democrats do have that if he's
the nominee it could be insuring 4 more
00:34:03
years of President. On the White House
seems to be their number one concern going
00:34:08
into this election cycle the crowds have
consistently said that that's the most
00:34:13
important thing to them as well as these
other issues right and I think what you're
00:34:17
what you've gotten so far in the early
primaries the centers has been very well
00:34:21
he's building momentum is latest performance
and of that it was his best so far but
00:34:26
that's because also there are several
moderates who are giving up that moderate
00:34:31
vote and trying to vying for the role of
being the challenger to Senator Sanders I
00:34:36
thought for example in this latest debate
that Joe Biden had one of his stronger
00:34:40
debates he's counting on
00:34:41
a good performance Saturday in South Carolina
he actually probably has to win that
00:34:46
to remain viable I also think that the
former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg
00:34:52
was
00:34:52
a little more alive in this latest debate
that he was in the 1st debate last week
00:34:57
in which he got a very bad reviews from
00:35:00
a lot of critics Bloomberg tried to be more
forceful it tried to challenge Sanders
00:35:05
more so Bernie Sanders definitely was getting
criticized from all comers there and
00:35:11
what I think we want to see is this going
to have any effect on the Super Tuesday
00:35:16
voting next Tuesday or even in
South Carolina coming up in
00:35:19
a few days or has he built such
00:35:22
a theme of momentum that at this point
it's going to be hard for any of them to
00:35:26
slow him down all right that is the way
correspondent Jim alone mean well u.s.
00:35:31
National security adviser Robert O'Brien
said last week that he has not seen any
00:35:36
evidence that Russia is doing anything to
help President Trump get reelected but he
00:35:41
acknowledged he has sought out and not
sought out intelligence reports alleging
00:35:45
Moscow's interfering in the 2020 Alexion
also during Tuesday night's Democratic
00:35:51
debate the issue of Russian meddling came
up to prop attention to help President
00:35:56
Trump and also Bernie Sanders
00:35:58
a Democrat to take Trump on here's former
Mayor Pete the judge at the debate

00:36:04
. Why would the Russians want to be working
on behalf of Bernie Sanders I'll tell
00:36:09
you what the Russians want they don't have
00:36:11
a political party they want chaos and chaos
is what is coming our way I mean look
00:36:17
if you think the last 4 years has
been chaotic. Divisive toxic
00:36:24
exhausting imagine spending the better
part of 2020 with Bernie Sanders versus
00:36:29
Donald Trump Think about what that
will be like for this country about

a kid again from the Democratic
debate courtesy of c.b.s.
00:36:38
Americans are getting confused about
what to believe when it comes to Russian
00:36:42
interference Joining us now to sort it
all out is Camille Jaffer founder and
00:36:47
executive director of the National Security
instituted George Mason University of
00:36:51
Antonin Scalia law school what's going on
here well really what's clear is that the
00:36:57
Russians are interfering in the American
electoral process just like they did in 26
00:37:01
and this is no surprise we expected this
to happen and that process has begun and
00:37:06
what we see them doing it appears as
though they're interfering the Dischord at
00:37:11
a minimum we see them apparently Bernie
Sanders campaign was briefed that they were
00:37:16
interfering on his behalf and that's
interesting because if it is the case that
00:37:20
they that they favor the president which
again there's been some debate about
00:37:24
whether they favor the president or they're
simply interfering in the election and
00:37:28
they think he's a more pliable or
00:37:30
a more beneficial then candidate in either
event supporting Bernie is another way
00:37:36
of just creating more chaos and look suppose
we had Sorry we're understanding he
00:37:40
was elected right but what happened
then is his ability to function will be
00:37:44
undermined by the fact that it appears the
Russians and supported him too and so
00:37:48
what they've done very cleverly as they
had in the prior election was be very
00:37:53
effective that undermining the ability of
either person gets elected to be to be
00:38:00
successful but also to create
00:38:03
a lack of confidence in our public in our
system and our rule blog confusion that's
00:38:07
the real problem what specifically are
they doing to sow this discord though well
00:38:13
we know what they did back in 2016 right
in place 16 we saw them take both sides of
00:38:18
the debate we saw them support the black
live matter movement we saw them. Support
00:38:22
the rise of the foul right we saw them say
that Donald Trump is not my president
00:38:26
after was elected and we saw them have
these ads that had the devil of Jesus
00:38:30
wrestling and saying that Jesus wins if
Hillary loses you know and as we saw the
00:38:34
Russians taking both sides of debate and
as we understand it they're putting out
00:38:38
the same kind of messaging today on Twitter
and the like now we don't have details
00:38:43
we haven't seen reporting from the
intelligence community about what specifically
00:38:47
they're doing but it's fair to assume
that what they did back in 2060 in the
00:38:51
present more sophisticated version of that
may be what's going on here in the 2020
00:38:55
a lot so if the president does not want
to acknowledge this or he says he hasn't
00:38:59
been briefed on any of this is it safe to
assume that we are doing nothing to put
00:39:03
a stop to this potential interference
Well look the fact that the president you
00:39:06
know has one about been briefed on I think
is less relevant I think we do know that
00:39:11
the u.s.
00:39:11
Intelligence community is aware because we're
hearing these reports of the briefings
00:39:15
that they at least gave to members of
Congress and they gave the center standers
00:39:17
campaign so they're aware of the
We also know that various u.s.
00:39:21
Government agencies including
Ashford agency have taken
00:39:23
a new posture when it comes to both the
lecture experience and Sarek to these more
00:39:27
generally taken the view that they need
to engage in what they call persistent
00:39:30
engagement or defend forward which means
operating in foreign space against these
00:39:34
adversaries of to counter them
before they get to us u.s.
00:39:37
Shores we also know that about
a year and a half ago Congress
00:39:40
a gave them authorities to take action in
cyberspace against people who threaten
00:39:45
the u.s. Elections and they named
00:39:46
a Russia in North Korea China and Iran is
potentially being involved in activities
00:39:50
so we know there's authority we know there's
potential action being taken but the
00:39:54
real question is what should be done on
the defensive side because it's one thing
00:39:58
for us to go pushing push back against
it out there on the off and one on the
00:40:01
defense side here at home and that's an
important part of the debate how do you
00:40:04
change to work together with one another
and work with the federal government in
00:40:07
a collective security arrangement
to the found themselves against
00:40:10
a nation state threat and is an effort to
the to do that well and you know we know
00:40:14
that Chris present d.h.
00:40:15
Who runs the cyber infrastructure
security agency a d
00:40:18
h s has been out there working with the
states actively We know that. Congress
00:40:22
recently passed some funding to help with
those efforts but more needs to be done
00:40:25
right we know that for example the
federal government collects all sorts of
00:40:28
intelligence information about the threat
if we could pass that information on one
00:40:32
the private sector companies that are
doing defense on behalf of private or
00:40:36
otherwise the companies or the states that
would be important and 2nd if they could
00:40:39
pass an intelligence directly to the states
themselves that would be good beyond
00:40:43
that but we have to think about how
states can help each other get better and
00:40:47
activate against this threat because with
one state standing alone it's like one
00:40:51
company standing alone can't rationally
expect them to stand up and defend
00:40:55
themselves against
00:40:55
a nation state attack or that is virtually
unlimited resources and virtually both
00:40:59
human and capital and these have to come
together work with one another with the
00:41:03
federal government work with the with private
industry to really closely defend one
00:41:08
another against this this this foreign
threat Morrissey's last question then she
00:41:12
didn't but I think in some ways they've
already achieved their mission because now
00:41:16
the American public may be wondering if
the elections are fair well that and that
00:41:20
is the ultimate goal you're exactly right
Laura which is that the the Russians have
00:41:24
already successfully undermined some level
of confidence the election but they're
00:41:29
going to keep going they're going to try
and do more and we've got to push back on
00:41:32
it against a nation you know we've got
00:41:34
a lot of partisan carping against one
another for the last 4 years that's still
00:41:38
going to continue because look there
is an open debate over how to run our
00:41:41
government and that's Ok today to have
what's not Ok is the question whether we're
00:41:46
under attack from foreign nations there
because we are and we've got to band
00:41:49
together as something public committee has
between Senators Berger and Warner come
00:41:54
together call for one of their take
collective action against the threats aren't
00:41:57
you now Jaffer founder and executive director

00:43:11
not she could not predict how severe the
spread of the virus will be in the u.s.
00:43:16
It's not so much a question of if this
will happen anymore but rather more
00:43:21
a question of exactly when this will
happen and how many people in this country
00:43:26
will have to fear parts of northern Italy

00:43:31

the sudden outbreak in recent days from

During the 1973 Arab Israeli war

air force that made him unlikely to
00:49:02

but with huge financial incentives from
00:49:06

to the treaty. At the same time he mended

00:54:08
something that you can't fight something
that you have no power over is really
00:54:11
scary and you don't know where it's coming
from you don't know when it's kind of

frightening Oliver Jackson Cohen says

Invisible Man was written by h.g.
00:54:27
Wells and published in 897 and made it
terrifyingly relevant and you know him to
00:54:33
take this property that we've known about
for so long and actually make the monster
00:54:38
real and make it something that we
encounter and stories that that is still

happening today you know to to kind of
update it said this is the. If you're going

to kind of take the invisible man every

the Paranormal Activity and insidious
franchises as well as the Oscar winning get
00:55:10
out when else says that he didn't start
out thinking about modern implications of
00:55:15
the film like the Harvey Weinstein case
but those themes found their way into the
00:55:21
final product the themes of the the
allegories of the movie come through at
00:55:27
a subconscious level sometimes and sometimes
and that's how it was for me when
00:55:32
writing this film I started to see things
pop up out of it that felt relevant and
00:55:36
current and I just you just sort of let it
happen you know any Elisabeth Moss says
00:55:40
she hopes the film motivates people to
take the problem of abuse and those trying
00:55:45
to escape it seriously you know and that's
one of the things that we talk about in
00:55:49
this film through the film is you know
she's just she is scared and she feels

something and she believes something's
